SBMI CONNECT 2013: Prospective Student Open House, Poster Session & Career Panel
I coordinated the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics Spring Poster Session and Career Panel on Monday, May 6, during which the school also held the inaugural prospective student event “SBMI CONNECT 2013”. To kick off the event, current students presented research at the poster session and were judged by students, alumni and faculty. A career panel followed the poster session with four SBMI alumni—Jonathan Ishee, MPH, MS, LLM, JD; Stephen Jones, MD, MS; Nnaemeka Okafor, MD, MS; and Muhammad Walji, PhD—sharing their unique career path in health informatics. The presenters gave advice to potential and current students hoping to break into the field. As a part of the event, SBMI CONNECT 2013 allowed prospective students to view student research, hear about career opportunities in informatics and interact with faculty, alumni, students and staff. This was the first time the school invited prospective students to this event. Although I spearheaded the conceptualization, design, promotion, and coordination for this event, I had tremendous support from the academic affairs department in all aspects of the event.

Whole Foods Market Community Giving Day: UH Sustainability and Nutrition
I worked with University of Houston development staff to secure a Whole Foods Market Community Giving Day grant. Our sustainability and nutrition programs received 5% of the sales at the Post Oak Houston location on August 20, raising thousands of dollars for programs committed to serving the community and improving the environment. The UH campus community garden, the program I managed, received half of the total award. The UH garden donates all herbs, vegetables and fruits to nearby food pantries, which are located in food insecure areas. This campaign had to be designed for use within Whole Foods branding and the University’s branding. I designed all of the collatoral for this campaign. I can share my grant proposal, communications plan and logistics plan for this campaign with potential clients or employers by request.[bg_collapse view=”link” color=”#3976b4″ icon=”arrow” expand_text=”Show Community Giving Day Campaign” collapse_text=”Hide Campaign” ]
